I thought Daiane Dos Santos started at 11.

I’ve heard 11-13. Not 100% positive, but I think 13 may have been when she started competitive gymnastics.

Could you list some gymnasts who started later and their ages when they did start?

Alicia Sacramone (8)

Ludivine Furnon (11; won a world bronze only three years later)

Daiane Dos Santos (13)

Those are just the few I can name off the top of my head. But considering they all have at least one world medal, I think that is substantial evidence proving you don’t have to be bred straight from the womb to be a successful gymnast.

Diane dos santos started at like 13. Would it be so impossible for someone to start at 16 (with dance experience)?

Absolutely not impossible. Do not be discouraged because you’re older than standard gymnastics age. I’ve met many gymnasts who started late and still had successful recreational &/or competitive years. Dos Santos started at 13 and had a world title to her name seven years later. It’s never too late. Plus, with dance experience you’ve already been exposed to body awareness and strength you will use in gymnastics. I highly recommend anyone with the opportunity to get involved in gymnastics, regardless of age, background, etc.

what do you think about daiane dos santos, and the two movements named after her?

Personally I am a huge Diane fan. Her tumbling including her eponymous skills is still remarkable. What I admire most is that she started unusually late (12-13 years old) and still had an outstanding career.
